Walnuts

Scientific Name: Juglans regia

Other Names: Common Walnut, Persian Walnut, English Walnut

Habitat: Walnuts are native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including Europe, Asia and North America.

Description:
Walnuts are large, round, edible nuts with a hard, smooth, dark brown outer shell. The inner flesh is yellow-brown in color and has a sweet, nutty flavor.

Status: Natural

Mineral Content: Walnuts are a good source of essential minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron and copper. They also contain a small amount of phosphorus, potassium and selenium.

Medicinal Value: Walnuts are believed to have a number of health benefits, including reducing inflammation, helping to lower cholesterol levels and reducing the risk of certain types of cancer. They are also thought to improve brain function, reduce the risk of heart disease and help with weight loss.

Culinary Use: Walnuts are commonly used in baking, cooking and as a snack food. They can be eaten raw, roasted or ground into a paste. They can also be used to make walnut oil, which is used in salad dressings and other foods.
